Tcherepnin - Great CD, June 16, 2000

I originally bought this CD because I've had a CD of his solo piano music for many years that I've enjoyed very much. So I thought I'd give this CD a try, and I wasn't disappointed, and I doubt most fans of Tcherepnin's music will be either.

All three pieces are exciting, dynamic, interesting works of the type Tcherepnin is known for. Although he developed his own harmonic language and had a strong Chinese influence (he toured the country extensively and married a Chinese pianist) that is definitely present on this CD, his music is not radically different from the Western tonal system that he came out of. The result is music that is quite accessible and enjoyable, but still original and unique.

The playing and recording quality of the CD are excellent. It is unfortunate that the complimentary CD (concertos 2,3,6) is no longer available on amazon (I don't know if it's available anywhere at all), because I would definitely buy it if I could.
