The Chetham's Summer Pianists event 2003 was
a miraculous experience for me:
The third Chetham's International Summer school and Festival for
Pianists concluded at the end of August and has led to many words
of encouragement from members of the participants, faculty and
audience alike. Murray McLachlan, creator and Artistic director
of this large-scale annual project, was especially touched to
receive this message from Yony Solomon, the distinguished concert
pianist and Professor at the Royal College of Music :
" The Chetham's Summer Pianists event 2003 was a miraculous
experience for me:130 pianists of every age from 8 to almost 80
were a formidable and special collection of exceptional talent
with a hugely voracious appetite in
searching for their own magical goal in the true art of great
piano-playing. And masterminding this with almost superhuman energy
, saintly good-will and an abundance of warmth , charm and infinite
wisdom is of course the ever-fascinating, inspiring and masterly
musician Murray McLachlan who is himself one of those very rare
great pianists and teachers .
The days spent alongside him and those awesomely gifted peforming-professors
and the brightly aspiring participants had an aura of unbridled
enthusiasm , highest artistic ideals and that glowing spiritual
atmosphere that historically the finest schools of piano led by
Liszt , Busoni and that select few of pedagogical genius must
have created .
Thank you Murray for your kindness, support, vision and encouragement
to help us all achieve a pianistic ambience and artistic legacy
in giving the very best of ourselves to others along this path
of the ideal. "
Affectionately ,
Yonty
